The bow tie is a traditional type of tie often worn primarily at formal occasions, including weddings, funerals, church services, graduations, special parties, proms, and other dances.
Technically, a bow tie is described as "a ribbon of fabric tied symmetrically around the collar of a shirt so that the two opposite ends form loops."
It is said that the bow tie originated during the Thirty Years' War, which took place in Europe in the 17th century. Mercenaries, or hired soldiers, wore scarves to hold the neck openings of their shirts together.
These " bow ties " became popular in France and later evolved into the standard necktie and the bow tie.
Culturally, the bow tie serves several purposes. Events may be described as " white tie events " or " black tie events ," meaning that attendees are expected to dress formally.
Men typically wear a bow tie. In the 1980s, many businesswomen wore more elaborate and feminine bow ties with their suits. Clowns, too, are sometimes depicted wearing oversized, comical bow ties.
Bow ties, long considered relics, are making a strong comeback in modern society. For example, Moziah Bridges, a young man from Memphis , Tennessee, USA, reintroduced the bow tie as an accessory for teenagers. "
I started my business because I needed an accessory to look sharp, but I couldn't find anything that matched my style or personality," Mo explains. "So, with the help of my grandmother, I started making my own bow ties."
Mo is now the CEO of Mo's Bows and will graduate from high school in 2020.

Draw an oval. It will form the knot in the center of the bow tie.

Draw a long curved line starting from one side of the knot. This forms one side of the bow tie itself.

Draw the other side of the bow tie using a long, curved line. This line should be a mirror image of the one on the opposite side.

Wrap both sides of the bow tie, using a curved line for each.

Form the bow tie knot. Draw a curved line at the top and bottom of the knot.

Erase the bow tie knot guide lines.

From the bow tie knot, extend two sets of long, slightly curved lines downwards. These will form the ribbons of the bow tie.

Wrap the bottom of each ribbon with two straight or slightly curved lines. An open triangle shape should be formed at the end of each ribbon.

Add depth to the knot. Extend the curved lines of the knot on each side of the knot and into the ribbons.

Color your bow tie. Bow ties can be any color imaginable, so get creative! You can also add patterns to your bow tie.
